Alamo Area MPO Public Meeting for the Transportation Improvement Program – It’s Your Move, New Braunfels
New Braunfels, Texas — In June 2015, the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) announced a call for projects in support of the development of the short-range Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP lists transportation projects to receive federal funding over the next four fiscal years. Forty-one project proposals were received during the project call, totaling over $400 million. The amount available for this project call is estimated at $100 million and is dependent on the availability of federal funding.
“Based on transportation mobility needs, project readiness and MPO funding availability, City Council proposed that capacity improvements on FM 725, from County Line Road to Zipp Road, be recommended to TxDOT for the 2017-2010 TIP,” said City Engineer Garry Ford. “Improvements include the expansion from two lanes to four lanes with turn lanes, signal improvements, sidewalks and a shared use path.”
“Because of the traffic needs across the communities that make up the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, public input is crucial for the Policy Board to make final decisions on where to allocate these limited funds,” said Public Works Director Greg Malatek. “Those communities that are involved and communicate their needs, stand a better chance of seeing funded projects.”

You can participate via a survey online at www.alamoareampo.org/YourMove or by attending a TIP Public Meeting in New Braunfels on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the New Braunfels Civic Center, located at 375 S. Castell Avenue,” Planning and Community Development Director Christopher Looney said. “The online survey is available through Thursday, March 3rd.”
Input collected through the survey and at the meeting will help the Transportation Policy Board make decisions that guide transportation investments and set the course for the next four years.
