On Eve of Stage 1 Drought Restrictions, Mayor Makes Reflective Visit to Downtown Fountain

As of today, Tuesday, New Braunfels Utilities has placed its customers in Stage 1 Drought Restrictions. Residents will be restricted to watering once a week on their assigned day with a sprinkler or irrigation system as long as it is before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m.

On the eve of the restrictions, New Braunfels Mayor Barron Casteel made one last visit to the flowing Fountain at Main Plaza in Downtown New Braunfels, which briefly was turned back on immediately following NBU lifting Stage 1 restrictions after the rains in May and June. He took to Facebook to post photos of the fountain before it was sentenced to run dry, and advise his constituents on the importance of water conservation:

I stopped by the Main Plaza fountain after tonight’s Council meeting for one last look before tomorrow, the Summer heat and increased water usage has dropped the Edwards Aquifer below the trigger level for Stage I, resulting in a return to Stage I drought restrictions. The fountain will be turned off until we are out of Stage I. The restrictions will go in effect starting Tuesday, July 28.

The latest watering information can be accessed 24-hours a day by calling the NBU Conservation Information Line at 608-8925 or by visiting www.nbutexas.com. New Braunfels water usage guides are available at the NBU Main Office as well as the NBU web site under the Conservation tab.

I know that we will pray for good weather and that we will conserve water, because conservation works best in protecting our Comal Springs and the beauty of New Braunfels.
