Lost Arts – Learn Basic Hand Sewing

April 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Lost Arts is a new learning experience at The Sophienburg Museum that brings the past to life by reconnecting our community with traditional skills and time-honored practices. Through guided gatherings and workshops, participants will learn “lost arts” such as sewing, sausage making, leather crafting, and other home economics–based skills that once played an essential role in daily life. These arts—rooted in heritage, self-sufficiency, and community—are seeing a renewed interest today as people seek to preserve cultural traditions and practical knowledge. Lost Arts celebrates the craftsmanship, stories, and shared experiences behind these skills, ensuring they are passed on to future generations.
This month we will learn the skill of hand sewing from expert Cristabell West.  She will lead a hands-on experience where we will learn how to thread a needle (and tie a knot), sew a basic hem (to use to repair a hem in a pair of pants or other item), learn how to sew on a button, and other helpful skills.
Each session will include a beverage and a snack.
All are welcome!  Join us to learn some of the skills that your grandparents may have tried to teach you, but you were not paying the attention you maybe should have – or have just forgotten how to do. Bring a friend or two and check us out.
$20 per person
