On July 12, Zachary Gossett of Austin took a short cut into the river that nearly cost him his life. As he jumped into the Comal River that afternoon, he hit his head on the rocks, knocking him unconscious. He went underwater, drowned, and his heart stop beating. Lucky for Zachary, an off duty nurse and EMT were both floating the river that day, and administered CPR that brought back Gossett from the brink of death. In December, Gossett went to Facebook to reflect on that afternoon, and through the power of social media, on New Year’s Day, he was reunited with one of his “angels” on the banks of New Braunfels’ Comal River.

The experience inspired Gossett to become CPR certified just weeks after the incident.
