Born in Seattle in 1939, Judy Collins got her love of music from her pianist father. She began taking piano lessons at 13 years old but quit soon after to pursue her love of folk music. In 1961, a 22-year-old Collins moved to New York City and started performing at coffee shops in the Greenwich Village area. She released her first album, A Maid of Constant Sorrow, and began touring America as a folk artist. While dating Stephen Stills, she became the inspiration for the Crosby, Stills & Nash hit song Suite Judy Blue Eyes. Today she is known as one of the finest folk artists in the world with a career spanning seven decades.
